About this place

Santa Luzia is a small village near Tavira. It is known as the octopus village of the Algarve, they still fish for octopus in the traditional way, then these are deliciously prepared in one of the many restaurants on the boulevard, for example at Casa de Polvo (the house of the octopus). . The best time to visit this village is early in the morning (except Sunday) because then the fishing boats return and you can buy the freshest fish you can get at the market.

When you walk along the boulevard you look out over the lagoons of the Ria Formosa, a beautiful sight! So it is definitely worth taking a look here and while you are there, be surprised by a deliciously prepared meal of octopus!

It is also possible to take a taxi boat or ferry from Santa Luzia to the beaches. For example, you can go to Praia da Terra Estreita, a vast beach where it remains nice and quiet even in the high tide months!

Early in the morning the fishing boats return with the fresh catch of octopus, which are immediately traded. Nice to see! then walk straight through the streets behind the boulevard before going to Terra Estreita beach....
